Anna Jarvis Elementary School in Taylor County started a pumpkin drop last year with its fourth graders.
This year the entire school got involved.
The goal is not to smash the pumpkins, but to protect them as they're dropped from a crane, 80 feet above the ground.
Ideas for cushioning the pumpkins ranged from pillows, to shredded paper, to bubble wrap.
Principal Jeanne Gren said the kids were free to use their imaginations.
"The students use it as a creative problem solving activity in their classrooms," Gren said. "They brain storm, think about what might protect a pumpkin from an 80 foot drop on top of a crane."
