AARP Names Morgantown 'Tenth Best Place To Live'

Leaders in Morgantown are celebrating the city's national "best places to live" designation.

AARP The Magazine named Morgantown the tenth "Best Place to Live on $100 a Day."

On Monday evening, Morgantown business owners and government leaders gathered at the Hilton Garden Inn for an invitation-only reception.

Each year, the magazine looks for the best places to live for Americans ages 50 and older. This year, it looked for cities that offer affordable housing, low cost of living, and reasonably priced luxuries.

Morgantown's museums, hiking and biking trails, and cultural offerings put it on the top of the list, all for $100 a day or less.

"Well, you know we're just delighted that the nations finally realized what we've known all along that Morgantown is a growing and vibrant community, that it has art and culture, it has outdoor activities and it has some excellent healthcare. So I think all of those things combined led it to be on our top ten list," said Gaylene Miller, AARP West Virginia State Director.

Other factors that worked in Morgantown's favor were the number of sunny days and the fact that it's a college town.
