The Region VII Planning and Development Council held one of its quarterly meetings Monday night at the Upshur County Business Center in Buckhannon.
The topics on the agenda ranged from grants and funding to its upcoming Christmas party location. One of the biggest topics was the lack of broadband Internet for some of its regions.
"In this rural community, it's so tough to get broadband, but it's so important for our children to be competitive not only in the state market but in the global market," said Bob Jacobus, Community Development Specialist for the Council. "We have some counties that don't have hospitals or even 24/7 emergency care, so being able to transfer information and lots of it really fast is really important for our rural communities."
The last thing on the agenda was the retirement of Executive Director, Rosemary Wagner. Wagner had been in that position since 1999. Shane Whitehair will be her successor.
