State Police Participate in School Bus 'Ride-Alongs'

Harrison County -

This week is school bus safety week. And in honor of that the State Department of Education is holding school bus "ride-alongs."

On Wednesday, state troopers rode along with a Harrison County school bus to see if other drivers stop when the school bus stops to let out students.

"We do that from time to time because we have complaints with people not stopping for the bus when the kids are getting off the bus, so it's a safety issue" said Trooper M.A. Bailey. "We don't want any kids getting run over because people aren't paying attention when the bus has the stop signs out."

In addition to the trooper on the bus, another trooper followed the bus, ready to stop anyone who didn't obey the buses' stop signs.

Two offenders were caught and stopped by the officer.
