Mon General Hosts Heart Walk Saturday

MONONGALIA COUNTY -

Mon General Hospital promoted healthy hearts Saturday at the Morgantown Heart Walk.

The day started off with a Zumba warm up and a "Heart Dash" for kids to take part in. Heart survivors wore red caps while they walked and stroke survivors wore white.

The day was to help raise awareness for healthy living and to raise money for research.

"I'm here today because not only do I believe as a nurse that this is very, very important for our community to do preventative heart care but because seventeen years ago I had to have my valve replaced that was congenitally injured and I'm here today still surviving," said Denise Myers, a survivor from a congenital heart condition.

The American Heart Association partnered with Mon General because heart disease is the number one killer of West Virginians.
