The West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management announced that I-68 in Preston County is closed to motorists from Exit 10 (Cheat Lake) into Maryland.
As of 2 a.m., Preston County emergency officials said the West Virginia National Guard and West Virginia State Police are retrieving stranded motorists and taking them to an emergency shelter at the Bruceton Volunteer Fire Department.
Emergency officials ask drivers to avoid that area, and to stay off of the roads if at all possible.
