Several Shelters Set Up in Randolph County

Posted: Updated:

Some Randolph County residents have been taking advantage of local storm shelters.

The Elkins Fire Department is home to one of those shelters.

The fire department said it has sheltered more than 25 families overnight and has provided warmth and meals for people all day.

Organizers said they want people to take advantage of what the shelters offer.

"I would like to encourage anyone that's out there in a cold home, if you have transportation or a way to get there or if you're elderly, please call the fire department," said Michael McRae, shelter volunteer. "We will make arrangements to have somebody come pick you up."

The fire department replaced Elkins Middle School which is no available for use as a shelter.
