ELKINS -

Randolph County is looking at another day without power.

Businesses are closed, classes canceled, and Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins is operating on generator power. It's open for emergencies only to meet the needs of patients.

Like most areas in West Virginia, lack of power has been the biggest issue since the super storm came through Tuesday. Since the outage began, Davis Memorial Hospital has been operating in code red.

"We are currently operating on generator power. We're optimistic that we will get full power, but there's no confirmation of that, so for now we're on generator power and we're in good shape," said Tracy Fath, marketing director.

Because it's only handling emergencies, no elective services are being provided. Fath said the hospital is trying to serve the needs of patients with true emergencies.

"We're just kind of taking it day by day to know what we can do as far as the other areas of the hospital like the operating room, and we're putting information out on our Facebook page and through media groups to help patients know what's available," Fath said.

It's unknown when the power will be restored here in Randolph County, but still people are making the best of it."

Fath said the hospital conducts disaster planning annually, and the hospital staff is ready to meet the challenges facing it.

"When there's a challenge they meet the challenge. They've been here, they've worked hard. As an organization, we're trying to take care of their needs too because we know they've been pushed, but they come in for the community, and it's a great group of people."
