Barbour County Animal Rescue Group Stunned By Storm

Posted: Updated:
BARBOUR COUNTY -

Animal Friends of Barbour County is having some unique issues stemming from the storm.

The no-kill shelter had a storage shed crushed and is without power to heat the building for the animals.

Despite extra preparation, the shelter is also dealing with other circumstances that have pushed them past their normal capacity.

They're trying to solve those issues as soon as possible.

"The people who built the shelter for us have plans to put in a generator that will sustain us during a storm like this, will sustain the whole building, but unfortunately, that is not in place yet," said Carol Talbot, group president.

The group also had to take back 20 cats from a foster home after the homeowner was taken to the hospital, and are accepting 31 dogs from a hoarding situation.

The shelter has already organized the transfer of some of their pets to other locations in the Eastern Panhandle and Virginia.
