BRIDGEPORT -

The Toys for Tots campaign is a way to get underprivileged children toys on Christmas. A toy collection was held Sunday at the Toys R Us near the Meadowbrook Mall.

The local coordinator has been running the program since it started five years ago. He was at the site to collect the donations.

"The program has actually gotten a lot better over the years. The first year we did it in 2007, we helped 400 kids, and last year, we've gotten progressively better, we helped 1,100 kids last year, and this year I would like to do even better" said Sgt. William Weber.

Weber was in charge of the donation Saturday at the Heston Farms Winery as well. They collected three full boxes of toys and a bicycle. Starting in two weeks he will be at that same Toys R Us location every Saturday and Sunday, from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m., collecting toys for the campaign.
