Unofficial election results show West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Robin Jean Davis will return to her seat on the bench and Charleston lawyer Allen Loughry will join her. 

The Associated Press called the election for Loughry, a Republican candidate, at 11:30 p.m. With 94 percent of precincts reporting, Loughry received 26 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results. 

Loughry pulled ahead of 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge John Yoder, who received 24 percent of the votes and Charleston attorney Letitia "Tish" Chafin, who captured 23 percent.  

"I'm very excited to hit the ground running and work very hard for the people of West Virginia," Loughry said. "I will work every day for the next 12 years making people proud. I promised throughout my campaign that I would treat everyone equally regardless of political affiliation. I believe the Supreme Court should be an unpolitical branch of government."

Loughry credited his success to a "positive, family-oriented campaign."

"We stayed positive from beginning to end, and we've worked very hard. We were fortunate to win a seat on the West Virginia Supreme Court.

Davis, who was initially elected to the court in 1996, is the most senior member of the court.

"I think my positive campaign resonated with the citizens of West Virginia and I will be in my office tomorrow," Davis said. "I'm looking forward to putting my entire focus on my work in the court. I plan to continue work on truancy and the justice reinvestment project."
