Sixty percent of registered voters in Harrison County cast their votes in this election, according to county election officials.

The only contested local race was for the office of sheriff. Democrat and incumbent Albert Marano defeated his challenger L.J. Maxey with 62 percent of the votes.

The offices of magistrate, prosecuting attorney, and county commission, assessor, and surveyor were all uncontested on the ballot.

"Their races were not contested and mine was," Marano said, "so with that it brings some nerves with it and some distractions. But you just try to work through it and get the job done."

This will be Marano's second term in office.
