LEWISBURG -

In neighboring Greenbrier County voters elected a new sheriff.

Democrat Jan Cahill beat Republican incumbent Jim Childers by about 2,000 votes.

Cahill retired earlier this year from the West Virginia State Police where he served as a trooper and captain for almost 30 years.

He says he's looking forward to bringing change that the voters came out and asked for.

It's very satisfying, very exciting. I'm a first timer and it went my way. There's been a lot of buzz about this particular race, a lot more than I was expecting. The voters want a change and they stepped up to the plate and came out tonight and expressed that."

Cahill says he is looking forward to bringing back the multi-unit drug task force that was dissolved in the county a few years ago.
