Marion County Residents Vote Down $10 Million School Bond

Posted: Updated:

Voters in Marion County narrowly defeated a school bond Tuesday.

Residents turned down the bond 52 to 48 percent, with fewer than 100 votes making the difference.

The $10 million bond would have paid for construction of a gymnasium at North Marion High School and the expansion of the school's cafeteria.

"On one hand you do appreciate those voters who got out and supported you but unfortunately it's not enough support to get it over the top. We'll have to take a look at those results and see if there is something we can do to change that in the future," said Marion County Superintendent Gary Price.

The school board said the project is worthwhile, and it will look for ways to promote it to residents in the future.
