The Department of Homeland Security has given the Salem Police Department a sub-grant in the amount of $25,000.

Animal shelters across the country are reaching out to the public this week
It's all part of National Shelter Appreciation Week.
The Humane Society of Harrison County is currently discounting adoption fees for cats and dogs to encourage more people to adopt and spay and neuter.
"Last year in Harrison County alone over 3,800 healthy adoptable dogs and cats were euthanized simply because there weren't enough homes for them," said executive director Laura Miller.
Animal Shelter Appreciation Week has been recognized the first week of November since 1996.
