BRIDGEPORT -
It's beginning to look a bit like Christmas in some stores, but the true spirit of Christmas is in the heart of Charlotte Kirby.
"Homeless, because the homeless need toys," said Charlotte Kirby, founder of Charlotte's First Annual Toy Drive.
Charlotte drafted up the idea over the summer, an idea she's been running with ever since.
"She wanted to have a free toy sale for them to be able to come and shop for their children," said Belynda Kirby, Charlotte's mom.
But she's not the only one running with it. Charlotte collected more than 200 toys in just two weeks.
"Facebook has been huge. It has gone viral, all over the country to get new people to donate. And here in Bridgeport we've had tremendous support," Belynda Kirby said.
Charlotte's collected gifts for boys and girls of all ages.
"Break a ice, star wars, bubble gum, stuffed animals..." Charlotte Kirby said.
Charlotte knows she's fortunate to have lots of toys and presents each year, but she also knows there are a lot of other kids with big hearts that aren't so lucky.
"There's so much talk about good behavior gets you toys. But there are a lot of kids that really good and are waiting for toys at Christmas, but don't get them because their parents don't have the means to provide them for them," Belynda Kirby said.
And she knows those kids aren't much different from her.
"They want the same toys that other kids who are able to get them want. We're trying to get things that meet their desires for toys," Belynda Kirby said.
All of those brand new gifts will be given to patrons of the Soup Opera in Fairmont next week.
"Charlotte has set a goal of 501," Belynda Kirby said.
Charlotte will be collecting toys until Wednesday, Nov. 14. You can drop off toys at the following locations:
