Students at Buckhannon Upshur Middle School took time to honor veterans Friday afternoon, with a simple thank you.

Each student brought in materials to create cards or special words of appreciation.

Some of the cards will be given to Vets in Upshur County.

Students said it was something they wanted to do for those who've served or are serving.

"Every man in my family I know except for about two was in the military," said Jonathan Lewis, sixth grade student at Buckhannon Upshur Middle School.

"So we could support the soldiers who have died or past on, and the families that doesn't their mom, their dad or any of their brothers," said Rachael Ryan, sixth grade student at Buckhannon Upshur Middle School

"I wanted to do them to show the honor for the Marines and how they served their country," said Johnathan Beckner, sixth grade student at Buckhannon Upshur Middle School.

Some of the cards will be delivered to veterans at the VA Medical Center's Nursing Home in Clarksburg.
