West Fairmont Middle School joined more than 160 schools around the world to celebrate Odyssey's Decade of Difference.

The National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey is an annual educational event.

Students learned about alternative fuels, advanced vehicle technologies and reducing energy dependence.

The event gave West Fairmont Middle the opportunity to educate the public.

"I think its great because it's teaching about what's to come," said Melissa Conrad, West Fairmont Middle School teacher. "Alternative fuel is a big deal. We live in the state of West Virginia but it's a big coal state and now with the natural gas and Marcellus shale, a lot of kids. It's very relevant to their lives because family members work in this."

Odyssey is supported by the US Department of Energy.
