SHINNSTON -

Dozens of people lined up on Main Street in Shinnston Saturday dressed in red and blue for the annual Veterans Day Parade.

The parade was led by the Lincoln High School Marching Band, followed by the three local veterans.

Children gathered on the sidewalks to wave and collect candy.

The day's activities were sponsored by the Shinnston Lions, the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary and the Bice-Ferguson Museum.

Residents said parades like this is what being an American is all about.

"They need to know we care and that they are appreciated because without their service, we wouldn't have the freedom we have," said Linda Luchuck, a resident of Shinnston.

The parade was followed by a program to honor the local veterans at the American Legion.
