Friends of the Cheat held its semi-annual Adopt A Highway project on Saturday.

The event was canceled the first time it was scheduled because of Hurricane Sandy.

Friends of the Cheat came together to clean up a strip of road near the Cheat Lake. The group was small because some could not make it because of the storm aftermath. The group came together to clean up a strip of road near the Cheat Lake.

"The river is flowing right behind us and it extends past where we have a put in and where we have the Cheat Festival. So this stretch of land is really important to Friends of the Cheat. All the pollution on the side of the road could potentially be in the river," said Aubrey Harris, coordinator.

Friends of the Cheat is developing a water and rail trail to help get people out to enjoy the natural features of the Cheat.
