The Frank and Jane Gober West Virginia Folk Life Center launched a new Cultural Series for students at Fairmont State and Pierpont Community and Technical College.

The Appalachian Italian Folk Cultural Series kicked off Sunday and aims to preserve the characteristics of Italian Folk life in West Virginia.

FSU and Pierpont invited Fairmont native, Joan Saverino, to be the guest speaker that kicked off the event.

She said it is important for students to take advantage of the Folk life center.

"I think it's incredibly important," Saverino said. "It's important for everyone to get involved in the Folk life center here because every family has a story. Even if you're not a professional I would think people would have an interest in preserving their own family story."

FSU and Pierpont Staff hopes the presentation will encourage people to take advantage of the programs at the Folk life Center.
