BUCKHANNON -

West Virginia Wesleyan College announced on Sunday that Head Football Coach Jonas Jackson has resigned from his position.

Jackson had been on the football staff since 2009. He was promoted to head coach during the summer of 2011 after Denny Creehan left the program. Creehan is now the athletic director and head football coach at Alderson-Broaddus College.

Jackson lifted a talented 2011 Wesleyan squad to a national ranking in the D-II AFCA Poll, along with a 9-2 overall record and a second place finish in the WVIAC. Jackson helped the Bobcats set 36 news school records and tie one.

The 2012 season was the complete opposite. The Bobcats struggled and finished with a 3-8 overall record.

In two seasons at Wesleyan, Jackson finished with a 12-10 record. He has the most wins in the first two seasons of any coach in Wesleyan history  since the Bobcats joined the WVIAC in 1924.

Wesleyan officials said the search for a new head football coach will begin immediately.
