BUCKHANNON -
Most Turkey Trot 5K races are held the day before Thanksgiving, but West Virginia Wesleyan held its early this year.
The Early Bird Turkey Trot 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk was held Sunday afternoon on Wesleyan's campus. It held the race early this year since students will be home for Thanksgiving break. The event was co-hosted by the Wesleyan Wellness Center and the school's track and cross country teams.
The turnout for the race was better than past 5K races on the campus, and the organizers of the event thank the weather.
"It was gorgeous. I'm really glad. Last week whenever the snow storms came I was kind of worried that it wasn't going to work out, but the weather worked for us" said Christine Azevedo, co-organizer of the race.
The racer ages ranged from 11 to 53. The race ended at Ross Field where prizes were awarded to the top runner in each age division, the top three males and females, and for best costume.
