Newest Radio Tower in Taylor County Helps First Responders

Posted: Updated:

Taylor County has a new radio tower for emergency responders near Grafton.

The tower's communication signal can reach first responders as far away as Preston County. Harrison-Taylor County 911 Emergency Services personnel said the new tower has some much-needed technology updates. It will help with communication among first responders in all departments.

"Policemen can talk to firemen, can talk to ambulance people…when they are in town working in the case of an emergency," said Paul Bump, Director of Harrison-Taylor 911 Emergency Services. "Everybody's on the same platform, so we can get everybody together to work together on any incident that we have to deal with."

The new tower cost nearly $1 million and was paid for with the help of state and homeland security grants.
