HSFB Playoff Preview: No. 5 Morgantown vs. No. 4 Huntington

Posted: Updated:
HUNTINGTON -

Morgantown and Huntington have identical records, 9-2. What the Mohigans and Highlanders don't have, is a common opponent. The teams have met in the post season before but when the regular season schedules are compared for both squads in 2012, Morgantown and Huntington have completely different schedules.

Morgantown has never played at Huntington in the playoffs. That will happen Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Highlanders' Head Coach William Seals joked that he knew too much about Morgantown, knew things he didn't want to. Coach Seals said he's well-aware that the Mohigans are big and physical up front and have an efficient quarterback. Morgantown has a good running back corps, even without star Chazzy Thomas. Coach Seals said he team will have to play its best football to win Friday night's games. Huntington will have to try and get Morgantown unbalanced, win the line of scrimmage and put the Mohigans in second down and long situations.

Coach Seals said after getting throttled by Capital in the final regular season game, his squad showed a lot of character in a first round playoff win over Elkins. Coach Seals said his offense will use a lot of quick pitches and triple options. Huntington does not run a ‘wow' scheme.

Huntington has never made it past the second round of the high school football playoffs.

Morgantown Head Coach John Bowers said Saturday's win over Point Pleasant was a good lesson for his team. The Mohigans got off to a good start but relaxed too much in the third quarter. Coach Bowers wants to correct that and make sure his team gives a better second half effort. Morgantown will have to continue to focus.

Coach Bowers said he knew his running backs always had potential but when Chazzy Thomas was healthy, they weren't really needed. Now that Thomas is done for the season Coach Bowers said they are getting more of a chance and they are doing just fine.

Being the away team, Morgantown chose the date and time. Coach Bowers said he chose Friday night at 7:30 p.m. because that's when his team has been playing all season.

Coach Bowers sees Huntington as a fast team. The Highlanders have speed on the perimeter and run to the ball. The defense and special teams are also good.
