Mountainview Elementary Honored for Encouraging Interactive Digital Learning

Posted: Updated:

Former Governor Bob Wise was in Morgantown honoring a local elementary school for starting a national event.

In 2010, Mountainview Elementary held a "No Paper, No Pencils" Day to encourage interactive digital learning.

The Alliance for Excellent Education, which Wise presides, overtook the idea nationally, starting the national Digital Learning Day.

Last February the inaugural event reached more than two million students in 39 states.

"All kids know how to do use some technology. They use smartphones, they use iPads, laptops or whatever, but how do you learn from using technology. That's what's important is how do you learn from it? How do you use it responsibly? And also how do we assist our teachers? Technology isn't about replacing our teachers," Wise said.

"Digital Learning Day" will be celebrated this year on Wednesday, February 6.
