WV Teachers Gather at Lakeview Resort for Advanced Placement Teacher Training

Posted: Updated:

West Virginia teachers are in Monongalia County this week for advanced placement teacher training.

The event is organized by the West Virginia Center for Professional Development.

About 200 teachers from our northern counties are at a seminar held at the Lakeview Resort.

They're learning how they can improve student success to course material.

Last year in West Virginia, the number of students taking AP tests increased seven percent.

"It helps student to work on a more rigorous level than they would in the normal education classes," said Karen Linville, of the W.Va. Center for Professional Development. "It gets them accustomed to really focusing on their work, better study habits and it really prepares them for the rigors of college."

Students taking AP classes can also earn college credits from that class.
