Webster County High School Celebrates Veterans Day

Posted: Updated:

Monday was a holiday so the folks at Webster County High School celebrated Veterans Day on Tuesday.

Students and faculty invited veterans and their families from across the county recognized each veteran by name, rank, and branch of service and honored all of them for their service and sacrifice.

It was a big day for the veterans. The veterans said it also was a big day for students considering a career in the military.

"Getting to know some of these veterans and talk to them and see what their life has been about and see what they've done in the military, that some of these kids could really use the military and it would be beneficial to them and to the country," said 1st Sgt US Army, Retired. Ed Skidmore.

Superintendent Dr. Martha Dean also said "I think programs like the JROTC program that you have in Webster County High School gives people a real good idea of what it might be like to serve their country and America needs those who are patriotic and willing to go into government service."

Organizers also honored two members of Webster County High School's faculty: Retired Chief Petty Officer Charles Murphy teaches history and Sergeant Dwayne McClung teaches ROTC.
