One of two high school football games being played locally Friday night in the second round of the playoffs will be at Wayne Jamison Field in Bridgeport.
The No. 3 Bridgeport Indians host No. 6 Frankfort Falcons.
Looking back on The Tribe's blow-out win Saturday over Riverview, Bridgeport Head Coach Josh Nicewarner said a win is a win, no matter how big or small. Coach said his team needed a game like that it and it was about the team coming out and playing good football. Coach Nicewarner said the Indians did what they needed to do. The front line blocked as well as it had all year, the backs ran well and the defense was stellar. After a hard loss to Keyser and a canceled game to end the regular season there were a lot of questions Bridgeport needed answered. The Indians got those answers.
Star running back Brett Hathaway had a good game last Saturday and Bridgeport will look for a repeat performance from the senior. It was also the first game Anthony Bonamico was back. Bonamico has been out since the first week of the season with a foot injury. Coach Nicewarner said it was perfect timing to have Bonamico available again even though he hasn't planned on playing him, it all just worked out. Bonamico had two interceptions against Riverview.
Bridgeport passed the ball a little more than normal against Riverview but Coach Nicewarner said that's the type of situation where he chooses a throwing play based on the feel of the game. If the situation warrants it, that's what Bridgeport is going to do.
After playing Riverview on a Saturday, Coach Nicewarner said it's nice to be playing Frankfort on a Friday because it puts you back on a normal routine. It's also good to have a home game. Historically, Bridgeport's record is good at home.
With the exception of the No. 9 vs. No. 8 game, all the higher seeds advanced from the first-round games in Class AA. Coach Nicewarner said generally, you're looking at a better team in the second round and that applies to Frankfort. The Falcons have been tested this year according to Coach Nicewarner, have played some top teams and performed well.
