Robert C. Byrd gets home field advantage Friday night in the second round of the 2012 high school football playoffs. No. 5 RCB hosts No. 4 Bluefield.
Eagles' Head Coach Bruce Carey said that last week against Braxton County his team looked like it was watching a lot in the first half. RCB played better in the second half and it proved the team won't panic. The coaches set a plan during halftime and the team came out and executed the plan in the second half, and it worked. Coach Carey said last week's game wasn't very pretty and RCB will have to be better this week.
When it comes to Bluefield Coach Carey said the Beavers will be fast. Bluefield runs the Wing-T with double slots and uses a lot of motion. The Beavers are well coached and run the ball well. Bluefield's technique is strong and the defense line's up right every time. RCB will have to step up its game.
Coach Carey said Bluefield and RCB have played before in the regular season and Liberty has played the Beavers twice in the playoffs recently and both times were big Bluefield wins. Coach Carey said people in the area definitely know what Bluefield will bring and it won't be hard to convince the Eagles that they're going up against a good team.
