ELKINS -

Even though it's almost Thanksgiving, Elkins still had a Halloween party Saturday night at the YMCA. Because of the storms during Halloween, the city had to cancel trick-or-treating, so it held a party for the kids instead.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for the kids to get together and to be able to make up for that trick or treat we had to cancel" said Duke Talbott, Elkins Mayor.

The city thought about rescheduling, but according to Talbott,  people are still cleaning up from the storm and didn't' think it was safe enough to hold a trick-or-treat after dark.  The city decided to throw a party indoors for the kids instead. The event had booths with games, candy, and activities. The event also had a fortune teller.

Everyone who attended the party was asked to bring a canned food donation for the local food bank.

"We just thought that it'd be a good thing to show our gratitude at the same time that we're having some fun" Talbott said.
