A tractor trailer overturned while entering Interstate 79 south from the Westover on-ramp around 6 a.m. Monday morning, injuring the driver and slowing traffic for several hours.

Police said the driver of the truck, which was hauling garbage, took the turn too quickly, and lost control of the vehicle. It overturned, hitting a bridge abutment and blocking part of the highway.

Several police, fire, and EMS units were called to the scene to render aid and direct traffic. The driver of the truck was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

It took three hours for workers to clear the accident scene.

Division of Highway crews were called in to inspect the bridge.

Westover Police are handling the investigation.
