Housing Development Corporation to Purchase Miller Junior High School Building

Posted: Updated:

The Housing Development Corporation in Huntington has taken old schools in Kanawha County and transformed them into low income senior citizen housing.

Now it plans to do the same to an old Marion County School.

It is raising funds to purchase the Miller Junior High School building from the Marion County Board of Education.

The Board has unanimously agreed not to sell the property to anyone else, while the HDC raises the funds.

"They asked for an extension to December 31st of 2013. So we will give them what is now an additional year to see if they can get those funds secured," said Gary Price, Marion County Schools Superintendent.

Price said the HDC has presented examples of buildings it has renovated.

He said it would be a tremendous addition to the community.
