A Randolph County family has filed a lawsuit against a man they said was negligent in the use of a firearm.
Robert and Susie Boatwright said Robert Reckart Jr., 49, was not allowed to possess firearms because of a prior felony conviction.
The complaint said the Reckharts invited the Boatwrights' 15-year-old son to join them on a hunting trip in Tucker County.
During that trip, Reckart's gun went off and wounded the boy, who later lost a leg.
Reckart later pleaded guilty to one count of felon in possession of a firearm and will be sentenced next Tuesday.
