Hunting For the Perfect Christmas Tree

PRESTON COUNTY -

For many families holiday shopping continued Sunday. Not for gifts, toys, and deals, but for Christmas Trees.

The hunt for the perfect Christmas tree has been the fuel to cheers, jeers, and tears since the tradition began.

For Jared Hovatter and his fiancé Katie Everly, the couple began their new tradition at Mulkeen Christmas Tree Farm.

"Yeah this is the first time we've come up and cut a tree up. It's a different experience," said Hovatter.

"It's just the spirit of the holidays," said Everly. "I love Christmas. It's fun to have your own traditions."

When there are hundreds or even thousands of choices, finding the right tree can be hard. That's why experienced trees hunters know to have a plan.

"A tall fat one is what we're looking for, whatever makes her happy," Hovatter said.

The day was a first for the couple and their dog Lexi, but for Everly, it's taking a family tradition and beginning it with her new family.

"We've always gotten a real tree, ever since I remember," Everly said. "It was always fun, I guess you could say, watching mom and dad bring in the Christmas tree into the house. It was always too big, it never fit, but that's how we liked it."
