Most of us probably know someone whose life has been touched by hospice.

This is National Hospice Month.

Hospice care workers said it's important for patients, their families, and the community to know how hospice works and what it does.

"A lot of people think hospice services are given at the end of life, the very end," said Kim Boyce of Amedisys Hospice Care. "Or if the doctor suggests hospice, think 'I'm going to die.' A lot of people, once they have our services, think 'why didn't I get this sooner?'"

Amedisys takes care of roughly 200 patients per day in North Central West Virginia.
