Target App Allows Parents To Purchase Gifts in Front of Children

BRIDGEPORT -

It's an age old trick that most parents have probably used at least once: the "winter coat to cover a Christmas gift" trick.

It's how parents have been purchasing presents in front of their children for years.

"I need to take her with me she's only 3. I try to get something with out her going back and telling her big sissy," said Addie Brown, who admitted to using the "coat trick."

But the times are changing and so are parents' tricks.

The Target App is allowing parents with smart phones to buy gifts with a few clicks right in front of their child.

"Anybody that needs to shop but doesn't have the luxury of doing it because the person is around them at the time. Could work for a mom shopping for their kids," said Chad Piercy, Executive Team leader at the Target store in Bridgeport.

Target Stores have marked all of its "Top Toys" with QR codes this season.

Once the smart phone user downloads the Target App, the user can use the code scanner to pull up the item they are looking at in the store.

The application loads product details, similar products, and different versions of the product.

It also allows users to "add to a list" or "add to cart."

"Oh that's great, a good thing that I didn't know," said Christy Gunaratnam, a parent shopper.

"Yea, it would help out a lot," Brown said.

But it gets even better. All of those top toys can be shipped right to your home for free. But for the shopper who "wants it now," there's another option.

"Take their phone to guest services. Show it to a team member. They'll be able to pull it up and another team member will come back and put it in our red bag," Piercy said.

The application can be downloaded in the iTunes App store.
