Gilmer County residents, students and families gathered Monday evening for some caroling and the 7th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Glenville State College
Glenville State College president Peter Barr presided over the illumination ceremony, which took place in the Luanna T. Smith Amphitheater. Barr invited the kids in the audience to help him light the campus Christmas tree.
This tradition started when Barr's wife mentioned that it would be something nice to share with the community.
"It's not just a lot of faculty and staff bringing their kids and of course the students do as well, those that are married and have kids but also people from town. We're just excited. It's a wonderful opportunity, a joyous season and we're delighted to be able to do it," Barr said.
President Barr said he enjoys being able to feel the overwhelming energy from the kids when they light the tree together.
Also at the event, children could get pictures with Santa.
