Powerball Players Describe How They'd Spend Jackpot Winnings

Posted: Updated:

The winning numbers for the second largest Powerball jackpot in history were announced Wednesday night just before 11:00 p.m.

Wednesday's winning numbers are 5, 16, 22, 23, and 29. The Powerball is 6.

West Virginians were out earlier in the evening, hoping to strike it rich with their last-minute ticket purchases.

Cashiers at the GoMart in Clarksburg and BFS in Bridgeport said lines were nearly out the door between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Many ticket buyers already knew exactly how they'd spend all that money.

"I'd finish paying for school, finish going to school and then give my kids the most wonderful Christmas ever," said Candace Walker of Clarksburg.

"I would retire from work, and I would give some to charity and to the church. And I'd try and help out as many people as I can," said Nelson Waugh of Clarksburg.

"Buy a new car, a new house and go away from west Virginia," said Regina Matheny of Clarksburg.

"Pay off my bills, buy some land and a nice house," said Tim Auvil of Tucker County.

"Whoever wins, if I don't win, I just hope someone wins from West Virginia," Waugh added.

If Wednesday's winner opts for a lump sum, he'll walk away with $360 million after taxes.
