Harrison County said it's making progress on a statewide project to change addresses.

Harrison County 911 Director Paul Bump said he's received word from post offices in the county that residents should receive their new city-style addresses by next summer.

Bump said some residents could receive them as early as this week.

"This is to help with emergency responses," Bump said. "Transition from the old rural route style addresses, the RFD addresses to city style addresses. We've been working on it for several years. Post offices have been having a hard time getting the conversions done. They lacked staff."

Residents will have one year to make the transition once the addresses are changed.

After that, post offices will not deliver letters addressed to "rural style" addresses.
