IBM said Cyber Monday shopping was up 30-percent this year, which may not be so bad for the local economy.

West Virginia University professor Dr. Andy Wood said criticisms about online stores not charging sales tax is changing as more sites charge the tax based on shipping addresses.

Some companies direct online shopping to local stores rather than a centralized warehouse.

Dr. Wood said online shopping now includes more local businesses.

Other big online shopping days include Green Monday and Free Shipping Day, which together generated $2 billion last year.
