Bridgeport residents came out Thursday night to count down the city's official start to the holiday season.

A crowd gathered outside the Benedum Civic Center for Bridgeport's 8th annual "Light Up Night."

Santa Claus made an appearance, as did SnowBird and other on-air personalities from WBOY.

Miss West Virginia Kaitlin Gates lit the tree.

Students from Johnson Elementary, Simpson Elementary, and Heritage Christian performed Christmas carols.

The evening also included refreshments, giveaways, and entertainment from Josh Oldaker.
