November is National Marrow Donor Awareness Month and on Friday West Virginia University Hospital held a marrow drive.
Willing donors joined the donor registry during the drive. Registering is simple. Participants swab the inside of their mouths and submit some medical history.
Bone Marrow transplants help patients with more than 70 different diseases including leukemia and lymphoma.
"It's very rare as individuals get an opportunity to save a life," said Londia Goff of the WVUH Cancer Center, "and this is one way we can do it without any harm to ourselves."
An at-home kit allows qualified people to register on the donor list. For more information on how to join the list, visit Be The Match's web site.
