Walkersville VFD was formed in the early 1960s by a handful of community members.
After spending more than 20 years in one building, a fire forced the department to move to its current location, less than a mile down the road.
Steve Mealey has been chief for 16 years, and his father was one of those founding members.
Mealey is excited about the recent influx of members, which will help the department cover a wide terrain.
