FAIRMONT -

The Marion County Society for Handicapped Children and Adults held its annual Christmas party at the Fairmont VFW Post 629 Saturday.

The society was established in 1952, and the Christmas party has been a tradition all those years.

This is the society's last year running, and the last Christmas party for the kids. The society's president said she will miss working with the children.

"We enjoy these children. We've seen them since they were little, and until they're big. It makes me sad that this is our last one. I've really enjoyed this, and I'll miss these children after 20 years" said Cora Harding, president.

Harding said that lack of funding is the reason for the society having to shut down.
