Several hundred students did not attend school at Morgantown High School Tuesday after word of a potential shooting spread throughout social media.

Monday evening, a message was sent out via Twitter that said a potential shooting would occur on Tuesday at Morgantown High, according to Dr. Frank Devono, superintendent for Monongalia County Schools.

The Monongalia County Board of Education alerted Morgantown Police to the incident.
