Some Bridgeport Middle School students enjoyed a taste of the tropics Wednesday and it was all thanks to a professor at West Virginia University.

Dr. Ellie Mannette, the father of the Modern Steel Drum, held a workshop at the school Wednesday.

Mannette talked about the history of the instrument and he and his staff tuned the school's steel drums.

He said working with young students is one of the things he most enjoys.

"This art form is unique in quality and kind anywhere around the world, and the more people I can educate into it, the better for the art form as a whole," Mannette, said.

This is the second year Bridgeport has a steel drum group.
