United Hospital Center in Bridgeport continued the "It's All About You" lecture series Thursday. The lectures are designed to help cancer survivors and cancer patients.
Thursday's lecture was about staying active and getting exercise during and after chemotherapy.
An occupational therapist demonstrated some simple exercises that can help get cancer survivors back in shape, or keep them in shape during treatment. Virginia Vincent, an occupational therapist with UHC, said staying in shape does not necessarily require a trip to the gym.
"One of the greatest things that we have is the ability to walk and get out and to go to simple places such as the local mall, to our local high school tracks," said Vincent. "It's free and it's there, and walking actually is probably one of the easiest things that can be done without formally having to go to a gym."
The final lecture in the series will be Friday at 11 a.m. at UHC. Friday's lecture will be about "Looking Your Best" for the holiday season.
