Clarksburg Honors Past and Present Mayors

Posted: Updated:

Clarksburg honored its mayors, past and present, Thursday evening.

The city decorated the walls of city hall with portraits of its 24 mayors since 1957, which was when the municipal government was established.

Half of those mayors attended the dedication. Most of them served two-year terms, but three served for four years.

Former Mayor Albert Cox, who led the city following the flood of 1985, said he didn't know what to expect at the event, but the honor means a lot.

"I had no idea what it was about, then learned it was to unveil photographs of all of the former mayors of the city...like a Hall of Fame," said Cox. "It was very nice for the city to do that. I'm very pleased and honored they would think of us that way."

A sign donated by Hickman Signs will complete the dedication. It will read "Proud, Past, and Unlimited Future."
