MORGANTOWN -

West Virginia University welcomed more than a 1,000 alumni Sunday. Around 700 West Virginia University students and their families gathered at the Coliseum for the December Graduates Convocation.

No one was more excited to be there than the graduates themselves.

"Typically, I would have graduated in May but I think this December Graduation is just as special to me and I'm very honored to be here today," said Erika Betler, who graduated with a Medical Doctorate Degree.

Most of the students that are walking still have to take finals this week. Some are heading straight to study after the ceremony.

"But I mean I have to go to the library after this so it's still not the full affect yet," said Corey Hirkala, graduating with a Business Management degree.

"You've started something here at West Virginia University and now you are ready to launch your plans and your dreams,"  said President James Clements.

Graduates from The P. I. Reed School of Journalism, the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and 16 other schools at the University expressed their excitement.

"Like for everyone here it's just a great accomplishment, so it's great to share that with everyone," said Hirkala. "To be honest, I mean WVU it's a great place."

"I wouldn't change my decision at all. I went to undergraduate here graduated with undergrad decided to stay here for medical school and it's been a wonderful decision," said Betler. "I'm very, very proud to be a Mountaineer and graduate with a Doctorate Degree from WVU."

The alumni are the 142nd graduating class from West Virginia University.
